Bruce Lee 李小龍 (李振藩) (November 27, 1940–July 20, 1973)
Bruce Lee was a Hong Kong and American martial artist, actor, and filmmaker. He was the founder of Jeet Kune Do 截拳道, a hybrid martial arts philosophy, which was formed from his experiences in unarmed fighting and self-defense—as well as eclectic, Zen Buddhist, and Taoist philosophies—as a new school of martial arts thought.
With a career spanning Hong Kong and the United States, Lee is regarded as the first global Chinese film star and one of the most influential martial artists in the history of cinema. Known for the five feature-length martial arts films that he starred in as an adult, he is credited with helping to popularize martial arts films in the 1970s and promoting Hong Kong action cinema.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong, Lee was introduced to the Hong Kong film industry as a child actor by his father, Lee Hoi-chuen 李海泉. Lee's early martial arts experience included Wing Chun 詠春拳 (trained under Ip Man 葉問), tai chi, boxing (winning a Hong Kong boxing tournament), and frequent street fighting (neighborhood and rooftop fights).
He moved to Seattle in 1959, enrolling at the University of Washington in 1961.[11] It was during this time that Lee began to consider making money by teaching martial arts, even though he aspired to have a career in acting.
He opened his first martial arts school, operated out of his home in Seattle. After later adding a second school in Oakland, California, Lee once drew significant attention at the 1964 Long Beach International Karate Championships of California by making demonstrations and speaking.
He subsequently moved to Los Angeles to teach, where his students included Chuck Norris, Sharon Tate, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Bruce Lee SFX schoolboy boxer
Bruce Lee boasted in his memoirs about beating (knocking out?) "the British schoolboy boxing champion" in the Colony boxing championship of 1958. It was Garry Elms of KGV that he beat, but I don't particularly recollect Garry being knocked out.
This was of course long before Bruce attained international stardom.
The entry in that year's KGV school magazine is worth quoting: ""Elms had a difficult time as his opponent was by far the more fit and using his Chinese style of boxing, making it most difficult for Elms to get within striking distance"

Ip Man 葉問, 葉繼問 (1893-1972) was a Wing Chun 詠春拳 master who preserved and transmitted this style of Kung Fu during periods of Chinese history.
Born in Foshan 佛山, Guangdong Province, he learned Wing Chun directly from Chan Wah-shun (師承陳華順, 梁璧).
Ip Man was known for having the refined and economical technique of Movements, direct and efficient, he was a man who lived on modesty. lived simply, even though he was respected in the martial community
Bruce Lee started training with Ip Man in Hong Kong around 1953, when he was just 13 years old. His journey was unique because he didn’t just copy, he questioned, adapted and evolved.
Bruce Lee deeply regretted not being able to attend Ip Man’s funeral in 1972 due to engagements in Hollywood.
