On 14 November 2025, I visited Tai O on Lantau Island. When I walked by the local post office, I could hardly believe my eyes. A miracle!!
On the right is a new Postage Label Vending Machine in the usual green outfit, but on the left is a colonial postbox (Queen Elizabeth II number 149 [see here]). In RED. A worker was scratching off the green paint, and the original red colour reappeared. I instantly had the impression that Hong Kong Post admitted that they made a mistake when they painted the postboxes in ugly green and not in beautiful red. It was in the morning, and I decided to come back in the afternoon to see the final result of the painting.
What a disappointment after lunch – the postbox was green again!
Welcome back to reality.
