Wooden pedestrian bridge across a creek in Tai O, Lantau Island. It can be opened to allow boats to pass.
Next to the bridge, a signboard is attached reading:
Sun Ki Bridge & Stilt Houses
Sun Ki Bridge was funded and built by the local residents, it has been more than 30 years of history. As the stilt houses are not launching on land and the fishermen need to resolve the access issues within stilt houses by themselves. Construction of the Sun Ki Bridge is one of the examples. Built on stilts in a narrow river channel, these huts are the most distinctive characteristic of Tai O. They are inhabited mostly by the fisherfolk, descendants of the ancient Yueh tribe, Hong Kong's first …..
The inscription "more than 30 years of history" does not help in finding the construction date. When I visited the bridge in November 2025, the board was likely older than 30 years (which would be in the early 1990s). This can be judged from the missing last line because of rusting.
The Chinese Wikipedia reports that the bridge opened in June 1979. This would fit with the appearance of the signboard.
