Robert Patterson Dunlop appears in the 1927 Jurors List as an Electrical Engineer working for the Hong Kong Electric Co and resided in the company quarters at Causeway Hill. In 1940, he gave his address as 207 King's Road which was at North Point Power Station.

He was married to Edith Frida Bull. They had two children, both born in Hong Kong. 

Robert Dunlop was connected with the ARP Auxiliary and served in the HKVDC during the Battle of Hong Kong.

After the fall of Hong Kong, Private Dunlop was interned at Sham Shui Po Camp whilst his wife was interned at Stanley Camp. Their children had left Hong Kong prior to the start of the war. 

Post-war, Robert Dunlop continued working for the Hong Kong Electric Co. In 1949, he was acting Deputy Manager of the Company. The Dunlops later relocated to Canada.
