Known as Hughie within the family, Hugh Olson was a high achiever. Hugh and his four brothers all attended St. Joseph's in Hong Kong until the death of their grandfather. In 1919 Hugh's mother, Annie Olson, took her four sons to England .Thereafter they were educated at St. John's College, Southsea, Portsmouth. Hugh became an electrical engineer and rose to become Sheriff of the City of London in 1974. He married Vera Fleck, a former beauty queen.  They had three children. In the following family photo of nearly all John Olson's grandchildren taken at 98a Wanchai Road in around 1916, Hugh is standing second from left between my father, Reggie Warren and Marjorie Warnes. After 1917 when the Warren boys were sent to school in Canada, the cousins would never again be reunited. After the death of their mother, Iris and Marjorie Warnes remained in Hong Kong at the Canossian Convent while their brother, Cyril (far right) was placed in an orphanage near his Olson cousins' school in England and eventually deported to Canada at the age of sixteen.
