The Japanese-built Tower of Patriotic Souls in Hong Kong...

Submitted by lolittaho on

The Tower of Patriotic Souls (loosely translated) is situated on a knoll in Kowloon, near Kowloon Hospital.

When the Japanese troops invaded and dominated Kowloon for a short time, they built a monument to pay tribute to the Japanese soldiers who had lost their lives in the war.  Today it still stands, though long forgotten and tucked away in a corner of Kowloon Hospital, now a government hospital.  It is apparently similar to another tower on Hong Kong island, and was built to commemorate the Japanese war dead.

I can provide a present-day photograph of the monument.  Message me if you want photos.

Author’s note: I have provided a brief introduction to, and taken some present-day photos of, this WW2-era monument.  However, I admit that I am not a historical expert, and any information or photos surrounding the monument would be appreciated.

Best regards,
