Heavy draw-off hydrants were installed under the Kai Tak flight path and other high risk locations between 1962 and around 1971. 31 were installed in Kowloon and 4 on Hong Kong Island.

According to Fire Services Department records, heavy draw-off hydrant #30 was installed at the intersection of Choi Hung Road and Prince Edward Road in the middle of what was then a roundabout. We don't know the initial date of installation, but it was removed and then reinstalled in 1970. I think they had to move it because of road works to convert the roundabout into a trumpet interchange.

Date of removal unknown, but it was before 2009. I was unable to find a photo of the location.
