Fishing around in my wallet for some change and pulled out what I thought was a 50c coin. Only to see the edge was milled and had a central groove (modern 50c edges are smooth). It turned out to be a George VI 1950 10c coin. It's almost as big as a modern 50c and is probably why it's still in circulation - mistaken for a 50c.
I'm not a coin expert but it's nice to find something reasonably old still doing the rounds. Maybe it will trigger some memories for some readers.
