Walter John Bush was a young coalminer from Rugeley in Staffordshire before joining the RGA in May 1903 and sailing at the end of that year to HKG. He spent five years there, initially with 80 Coy RGA and then 88 Coy RGA - I think mostly at Lyemun Barracks.
The call back to HKG - this time with family - must have been irresistible and off they went in February 1920 on HMT Professor (losing a child to pneumonia en-route), for Grandad's final four years service. Their home was to be 'D' Block ( I think only 'C' (Cassels) block still remains and remember seeing (B)irdwood on one of my visits), Victoria Barracks, Kennedy Rd.
Their oldest son, my uncle/Godfather who later went on to become a Lt Col in REME, went to school at St Joseph's College and two daughters went, I think, to Kennedy Rd junior school. My father (28 March 1923) and his older sister (June 1921) were both born in the Government Civil Hospital.
