Homi Villa was originally built by the Ruttonjee family. The government acquired the building in 1973 and converted it into the Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre in 1995 for public use.

Having arrived in HK in 1975 as a Govt Administrative Officer, after Cantonese Training I was posted for 6 months to Tsuen Wan District Office, sharing an office with my friend Robert Footman. He was then living at Homi Villa and I was always struck by the octagonal shape and superb location/views of the building.
Then in the early 1990s we were building the new airport and its transport links, but struggling to get the need for the (huge) programme over publicly. I remembered Homi villa with its views of the airport site and the new Tsing Ma Bridge, and with the support of Chief Secretary Sir David Ford was able to get the villa’s conversion to a public information centre approved and funded.
