His obituary appeared on p.11 of The Hong Kong Telegraph, 1924-07-14:

 MR. FRED FOSTER.

We regret to announce the death, which took place at the Government Civil Hospital on Saturday afternoon, of Mr. Fred Foster, the principal warder at Laichikok. He was admitted to Hospital about a month ago suffering from typhoid fever, and appeared to be progressing favourably. At midday on Saturday, however, he had a sudden relapse, and died a few hours later.

The late Mr. Foster had been in the Government service for 15 years and was much respected by all who knew him. He joined the Prison Department in 1909, and was previously in the Army. He served during the South African War and was wounded on three occasions, receiving the King's and Queen's medals. He was a prominent Freemason, being a Past Master of Lodge 848.

Much sympathy will be felt for the widow and the five children in the heavy bereavement which has so suddenly overtaken them.

The funeral took place at Happy Valley yesterday afternoon and was largely attended by deceased's colleagues and friends. Many beautiful floral tributes were laid upon the grave.
