Island Club, Fairy Land, Zara - RBL 395 [c.1937- ]

Actually, the house fka Fairy Land still exists.  Attaching some pictures I took a couple of years back.  House is most definitely still standing.  

I've estimated mid-1937 as the completion date, based on:

1. The land RBL 395 was auctioned on 13 July 1936, see item S. 178 in the Government Gazette.
2. The house, then named 'Zara', appears in the 1938 street index, see clipping above.

This is where my parents lived before the war. when the Japanese invaded, my father was recruited into the Middlesex Regiment and almost immediately captured by the Japanese. He played a major role during the sinking of the Lisbon Maru, now very well documented in a film made by a Chinese team on the subject.  My mother, not knowing what had happened to my father left the house to search for him. She did not know that she would not return. She was interned in the Stanley Camp.  After the Japanese surrender and the liberation of Hong Kong, the first thing my mother did was to walk from Stanley to her house.  The thought of not knowing what had happened to her dogs haunted her for years.  My parents were finally reunited in England and returned to Hong Kong where my mother opened up her ballet school at the Helena May.

Wow, that's some story.  Were your parents renting it or they owned it?  I believe Eric Moller owned it after the war before selling it to the current owners in the 1950s.

From the information so far, the house built on RBL 395 was first named 'Zara', then 'Bayview', then 'Fairyland'.

It's now called Island Club.  It has its own bus stop.  

I am sure my parents rented it at the time.
