Opened in 1966 as a donation to Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong from an alumnus of the Lingnan University in Canton which was renamed Sun Yat Sen University (中山大學) after 1949. The revival of Lingnan University took place in 1991 when the Lingnan College was converted into a public university .
