Current condition
Ruin
Date completed
(Year is approximate.)

A Japanese tunnel but only hollowed out into a large room; there do not appear to be any collapsed tunnels. Consistent with other Japanese fortifications in the area. Some bricks found inside. The latitude and longitude are correct but the cave is on the west side of the stream, not the east.

Hi

There is the ruins of a Japanese ww2 military camp under Violet Hill. I went there today, and to my shock, I found a couple of large Japanese tunnels, but they were all silted up.  Nearby, there was an enormous amount of foxholes and cuttings  that look to have been part of a camp of some kind. Seeing this, I scoured up the thick vegetation further up the hill. There was strange walls and foundations built out of local stone. These are definetly manmade as these rocks have been stacked to form walls and even firepits. You should visit this area and blog about it

Hi Highland

Sorry if I don't get the exact region right, but from what I remember, the location of the stone ruins is around  22.24965N, 114.19914E, whilst the army camp is around 22.24972N, 114.19931E.  I accessed these ruins from the valley below. To be honest, I was kind of lost whilst climbing around this hill. However I have some directions on how to get there if the coordinates are wrong.

First location: army camp dirt earthworks.

From this location(22°14'58.8"N 114°11'57.8"E), head up the slope. A few metres in, you will encounter yourself in a small dried up stream. Head up this stream until you reach a quite long flat section around forty metres in. Here, you look around and will defitnely see a row of 5 foxholes on the slope on your left hand side. There is also some depressions on the right hand side.

Second location: silted up tunnel with access trench:

From the first location mentioned, head up the slope on the left hand side in a westerly direction past the foxholes. Soon enough, you will see a huge disturbance in the soil. Head to this location, and you will find a trench. Enter into this trench and head down to the end. You will see a silted up tunnel there.

Third location: stone ruins

From this silted up tunnel, crash directly up the slope above the tunnel for about thirty or forty metres up through the dense thorn- laden vegetation. Midway, you will find the first ruin. The first ruin is a low stone series of walls that form a room of some kind. Continue heading up the hill until you see a boulder to your northwest. Climb to the boulder. This boulder is the second ruin, as a small stone structure had been built on it with a pit in the middle. I feel that it is a fire pit or flag holder of some sort. Next to the small stone ruin is an entrance trench  LADEN WITH THORNS( extremely hard to get into ) I managed to slice my fingers on some thorns, so BRING GLOVES. This entrance trench leads to another silted up tunnel which unlike the second one is fully buried. Climb up the trench in a westerly direction. Whilst crashing through the bushes, you will find yourself on the ceiling of what I suspect is a large stone wall, but I didn't have close observation of this one. I crashed my way back to the steps leading down Violet Hill
