Hi Simon,

I've made this page for your father, so it is easier for readers to comment on it.

If you go to the photo galleries and choose some of the 1950s galleries, there should be plenty of scenes your father recognises, e.g.
https://gwulo.com/photos/by-gallery?gallery=55

I've seen that people who remember Hong Kong from the 1950s and 60 enjoy watching the film Love is a many-splendored thing, so that could be one your father would enjoy: https://gwulo.com/love-is-a-many-splendored-thing

Here's a list of military sites that might be useful too: https://gwulo.com/node/33573

Regards, David

Thank you

Dad has seen that film very many times dad was over there with the queen's lancashire regiment as a MT driver...

Hi Simon. This is from the Queens Birthday Programme that took place on Monday 21April 1958 in Kowloon, this Regiment was the lead Regiment of the Marching Columns on parade. The East Lancashires arrived in Hong Kong on troopship Oxfordshire in October 1957, and have distance memory that their barracks were at Queens Hill camp near Fanling which was close to the Chinese mainland border. As I suspect you know they amalgamated with the South Lancashire Regiment in Hong Kong on 1 July 1958. Have seen a record that says the Regiment returned to England June/July 1960 on troopship Dunera.   Bryan Panter.

Hi

Many thanks

Am unsure we're to place this but I will post it anyway

Please take a few minutes to write them a message of support to thank them for their service and to let them know they’re not forgotten. These messages will be shared with veterans.
