Visiting Shek Kwu Chau's old Roman baths

Submitted by hang_shan on Sun, 07/02/2023 - 11:35

Shek Kwu Chau is a somewhat obscure island containing a drug rehab centre and, surprisingly, a Roman bath. All sources that I can find on this matter indicate that a permit is needed to visit the island, but I can find no other details about this permit's application process.

Does anyone have experience with visiting Shek Kwu Chau?

Hi There,

The Rehab Centre is managed by The Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drig Abusers.  Maybe if you make an enquiry and ask nicely, they may enlighten you a bit.  However please bear in mind, it is not a tourist attraction.  It is a Rehabilitation facility.

Since 1999, the Society hosted Open Day annually.  But that might have changed since the Covid Outbreak.

For applying for a pass for restricted area, likely you have to go to the Police.  But I am uncertain which police station is ear-marked for Shek Kwu Chau.  Maybe Cheung Chau?  I am just uncertain.  Again, maybe if you ask Police PR nicely they may give you some pointers.
