In the 1920s, St. Joseph's College at 7 Kennedy Road underwent an expansion programme.
Two additional buildings were built. The North Block, with its distinctive two towers and West Block including the Chapel Hall were opened on 5 September 1921 and 24 October 1925 respectively.
The West Block provided a connecting link between the North Block and the school premises in the former Club Germania building that was acquired in 1918. The Club Germania building was later demolished in 1961 and replaced with a seven-storey building in 1963.
The North and West Blocks are the only pre-war constructions within the school grounds. They were given declared monument status in 2000.
