As far as I can work out, it's not possible to obtain a death certificate for a relative unless one is physically in Hong Kong. Can anyone confirm this please? Or advise me if there is a way to do it remotely, from Australia?
Presumably you've checked the current procedure for applying for a death certificate on the government website. Once the Search process had been successful, until 2018 I was always able to pay by banker's draft for the physical certificate to be sent. I note that the current instructions specify that the certificate should be collected in person. It would be worth writing to the department on their email address enquiry@immd.gov.hk to ask if a banker's draft is still acceptable for certificates to be sent by post, as you know this was possible until recently. Also worth checking with your bank that they will do a draft for you.
