You might look at, if you haven't already done so, consult a couple of my publications, one is an article in Pacific Historical Review on Zeng Laishun (Tseng Lai Shun) and the other is a book on the Chinese Educational Mission (which takes in Spencer and his brother).

You might also contact a great-great-granddaughter of Zeng Laishun, Mary Severin, who lives in Oxfordshire; her email address is mary.severin@btinterne.com.

Thank you Ed Rhoads for this information and the additional contact Mary Severin. I will contact her.

I have read your journal article in The Pacific Historical Review and that was very useful, thank you. I have an article written by Carl T. Smith and he names a daughter of Spencer Laisun,.Daisy Spencer Laisun. I hhave found she married Richard Chamberlain Faithfull, a Shanghai Municiapl Police prosecutor in 1920 Shanghai. He was seventy and died in 1924,  Daisy was thirty -four.. They had two daughters Mabel Mary and Lily Josephne in 1915 and 1917.

I am seeking to find out what happened to Daisy do you know if she stayed in Shanghai ? I have traced the youngest daughter Lily Josephine Judd who died in 1940, to her only daughter Mavis (1940-????) to Ross-on -Wye and her only grand-daughter Sarah (1964-???? who )lives there also, however I have not been able to contact them.

Any suggestions?
