James Hunter was my great uncle ( brother of my GF Tobias Hunter.) He lived at 11 Shelley Street and worked for S J David in 1917-1918. In 1919 he worked for my GF as a commision agent ( from HK Jurors List ). His wife Emma ( maiden name unknown) died in 1933 at 11 Shelley Street and his daughter Ellen Hunter( born 1899 ) alias Fok Shuk Wah, died also at 11 Shelley Street in 1944. She does not appear to have been interned at Stanley Camp which could be due to her Eurasian status ( maybe looked more Asian ).

My GF Tobias Hunter moved to Shanghai in 1920 but James and his family seem to have stayed in Hong Kong, James disappeared from the Jrors Lists after1919. I can't find anything of him other than the obits for he and his wife. He is buried at the Colonial Cemetery and his wife and daughter are both at St Michael's Catholic Cemetery.

There's a Carl Smith card showing a James Hunter, retired teacher with a funeral service at St John's Cathedral that coincides with a burial on Aug 9, 1937 ( the day after his death ).

If he was a teacher, where and what did he teach? Why is he not on any Juror's lists after 1919? His daughter Ellen Hunter is showing as a student 1917-1919 at Diocesan School

I would appreciate any hints as to where I may find information on any of these people. I did find a probate notice for Ellen Hunter which was settled in 1947 by Ford, Kwan & Co solicitors. There is also a sealed file at HK Records that I'm trying to get re; Ellen Hunter probate. This may take some time as I'm in Canada with no way to go to HK in person.

Thanks

Brian Hunter Beesley
