Looking for New Victoria Hotel At Queen's Road Central

Submitted by rickygwulo on

Hi Everyone,

I am doing a special research on old hotels in Hong Kong, in particular,

the old Victoria Hotel (New Victoria Hotel) which existed in 1888 till the early 1900s

until the building collapsed in 1902(????).  In 1898, the New Victoria Hotel had an

address at 9 Queen's Road Central. My question is, with several street renumbering

since that time, where do you think "#9 Queen's Road Central" is located today at QRC?

Thank you for your help. Cheers!

Ricky

I remember the last Victoria Hotel from the early 1960s and have assumed it was built on the same site as the old Victoria  Hotel. It was on the east  side of one of the several side lanes and may have been the same one that was occupied by the Parisian Grill until it closed in c.1970. I do not know how these nameless pedestrian alleys/lanes were numbered but it makes sense that they would have had a Queens Road Central address

Hi Ricky,

Here is a photo of 9 Queens Road Central as it looks today. The fashion guru Joyce Ma opened her first "Joyce Cafe" there in the early 1990s.

I worked as Executive Chef for the Peninsula Hotel Company, and we helped her in opening her first restaurant at that time. Good luck with your search.
