"Courtland" was a lodge/hotel. In the 1936 Jurors List, the address given (for R. A. McKenny) was 1 Kennedy Road. In 1938, the address for "Courtland" was 3-5 Kennedy Road as per Street Index.

Note "Courtland" was sometimes spelt with or without an "s".

In Phyllis Harrop's book "Hong Kong Incident": In spite of capitulation, we have been heavily bombed two hours after the order to surrender and bombs have fallen on Garden Road and Kennedy Road with several casualties. Courtlands was damaged and one of the girls employed in the Colonial Office, Marie Dunne, injured.

In Barbara Anslow's "1946: Letters from Hong Kong", Courtlands had been taken over by the Government.
