I've been researching James Finch Waddell (1851-abt 1905), a successful Scottish architect who lived and worked in Hong Kong for the Taikoo Sugar Refinery and possibly for the local government. He shows up on three of the Jurors' Lists. He was married three times; his first spouse is unknown, but they had a child named Bessie (1881/83 - 1961/63), likely born in Scotland. She was raised by the sister of James Waddell, Elizabeth Waddell Parks, spouse of Moses Parks. In 1885, James married his second spouse, Elizabeth Jones (1865-1886) in Hong Kong. She and their infant died in childbirth. His third spouse was Elizabeth Ross (1871-1949), a teacher from Scotland who moved to Hong Kong. Their first child, Dorothy, died during the the flu epidemic. Elizabeth became very ill during her second pregnancy, so she and James returned to Scotland, where James Finch Waddell, Jr was born in 1900. In 1901, their daughter was born in London, England. She was named Alexandra Mary, after the Alexandra Hotel that he owned on Loudoun Rd.
James Finch Waddell, Sr died about 1905-06, possibly as the result of a fall from scaffolding. He spent some time in a nursing home and their financial circumstances quickly deteriorated. His widow remarried George Howe Osborne (1872-1946) and they emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada, where they had two sons, Robert and William.
I haven't located the death or burial records of James Finch Waddell, Sr.
