I am keenly interested in the WW2 Battle of Hong Kong in which Canadian Forces took the lead and suffered the highest rates of dead, wounded and Prisoners of War amongst the Allies posted in Hong Kong.
I have written this email [below] to the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department to ask them to erect a commemorative plaque at the site of the former North Point Prisoner of War Camp.
Would you please write a similar letter to the LCSD or others, to encourage them to do the same?
You may do so by email to:
or on their webpage at:

I am sending this email to ask the LCS Department to erect commemorative historical plaques in the Kings Road Playground and Tin Chiu Street Childrens Playgrounds to recognize the importance of and to educate the public about this site of the former WW2 North Point Prisoner of War Camp.
There is no plaque or information posted there to indicate the historical significance of this site.
I know that there are plaques, cemeteries and other commemorations and information posted at other sites in Hong Kong to recognize the sacrifices of Canadian, British and others during The Battle of Hong Kong. There is a plaque at the former PoW Camp in Sham Shui Po in Kowloon but the importance of North Point, on Hong Kong Island, should not be ignored.
The sacrifice of many Allies, including 267 Canadians who died in Hong Kong as Prisoners of War should also be marked at this site.
Please also direct this letter to other Government Departments which might be able to act on and contribute to this project.
Sincerely
Richard Phillips
