A few years back I wrote about a wedding which took place in HK in August 1936. The story got started with a photograph provided to me by Judy Bercene, which showed her relative Sheila Haynes as one of the Bridesmaids. At that stage we did not know who were the other people in the group looking back at us from the wedding photo. With help from Gwulo I was able to discover the identity of most of the people in that pre-war wedding photo and tell their story. During WW2 one died in the skies over Berlin and some like Sheila, and the groom were interned in Stanley Camp. We found the wedding was solemnised at Mody House, Kowloon where I think the photo was taken

Re: Mody House?
Hi Philip,
Not much help at this stage despite Gwulo has quite a few photos of older Tsimshatsui. However I believe we may have a photo of the area in the 1960's that may show something of interest. There is another older photo showing the area in the 1930s. The 1930s photo may give you some ideas of how the houses look like along Mody Road then.
There is a modern day version of Mody House sitting at the corner of Mody & Blenheim Avenue so this might be a clue that there was a previous building also of the same name there.
My 2 cents,
T
Re: Mody House
The bridesmaid photo of Sheila Haynes on her own in Mody House does show the Timeball Tower on Signal Hill in the background. I guess the photo was taken on the southern side of Mody Road facing Signal Hill.
On another subject, given the year 1936, the Imperial Airways DH-86 as shown in the hangar at Kai Tak was probably the "Dorado" (registration G-AWCD), the first airline service to Hong Kong that year with 16 mailbags and one passenger.
