John Masterton Sloane was prior to the World Wide Web.  They had evidence of his shipping out to Hong Kong on an 1869 boat.  He was 39 years at 1869.

I have done a little research of the 'birth,marriages and deaths' in Hong Kong and have not come across his name.  Do you have actual documentation to death, and / or cemetery records?
