Timeline

a) 1919 - Work commenced on Marine Lot 103 (Section B) in Des Voeux Road Central of a large extension to the Hong Kong Bank. 

b) 1922 - HSBC's extension at No. 4 Des Voeux Road Central was completed. 

c) 1925 - American Express Co. relocated to 4A Des Voeux Road Central from 11 Queen's Road Central.

There appears to be a covered walkway that joins the main HSBC building to the new building. See here In later years, the whole building was known as the American Express Bank Building.
