How are you? I am one of the great grand daughter from the Laing's family in HK ,to be honest you probably know more than me about my family history,is it possible if you can give me more information ? My father never talks about his family ,and i was too  young to ask at that time,i hope i can get in touch with any of them .

According to Peter Hall's "IN THE WEB", Douglas Laing was the son of Robert Kenneth Laing (Leung Kam Ming) (b.1876 d. 1949) and his wife Mary (nee Jordon) (Yu Che) (b. 1877 d. 1956)

Hi Agnes,

My wife is the daughter of Dr Douglas Laing 1902-1999.  He was born as Leung Kwok Cham and changed his name to Douglas Laing 29/04/1920.  His father was Leung Kam Ming (later Robert Kenneth Laing) 09/08/1876 who was married to Mary Yu Che Jordan 19/07/1877-17/02/1958.  She can be traced back through several Jordan generations via Liz Chater's wonderful website, in the Jordan section.

Douglas had 6 siblings Alice, Bertha, Cyril, Eva, Freddie and Gertrude.  From the alphabetical order of their first names I assume the whole family changed names at the same time.

Dr Laing was an ENT surgeon in HK and prominent in the Royal HK Jockey Club.

Dr Laing was extremely reticent to discuss his ancestry, as were many Eurasians who lived in HK pre WWII.  I have little succes following up his paternal line.

I am the grand daughter of Alice Laing, sister of Douglas Laing. I also went into Geni.com and looked at my family history starting from Great Grand father Robert Laing. Still visit his grave and Mary Jordan's graves every year.
