Garage built between the Peak Tram Upper Terminus and the Peak Hotel annex.

If the 1912 date of the profile photo is correct, the garage was constructed before this date. 

It is quite reasonable that the Peak Hotel Garage was not built before an easy motor car access was constructed. This was Stubbs Road (today Peak Road). The road connected Magazine Gap with Victoria Gap, it likely opened in full length in 1924 or 1925. An entry in the Hong Kong Heritage Project shows data (unfortunately not specified) for the garage between 1924 and 1927. c.1924 was estimated as date of the opening.

The building survived the demolition of the Peak Hotel and was still there after the end of WW2. The building is labeled "Peak Taxi Service" in the 1955 map on HKMS 2.0.

The building was demolished around 1960 and replaced by the Peak Bus Terminus & playground [1960-1989].

I think Peak Hotel Garage was built at sometime in or after 1923 or 1924 because;

  1. The 1912 date given for the above-mentioned profile photo is incorrect. It should be 1924 at the earliest. Please see reasons at https://gwulo.com/media/54556.
  2. When Stubbs Road (since renamed Peak Road) was built from Magazine Gap to Victoria Gap it was described as being, “part of the project to provide access to the Peak District by motor” (1). I’m unsure if motor vehicle access was impossible, or just difficult, before it was built, but it seems unlikely that Peak Hotel would build a substantial garage until motor vehicle access became common, i.e. after the "motor road" was completed. I’m unclear when the entire length of Stubbs Road was opened, but it was about 1924 or 1925 (2) & (3).

Hi gw, thank you again for digging so deep into the history of motor cars on the Peak. It sounds very reasonable that a considerable number of cars did not drive up to the Peak before Stubbs Road was completed. Of course, there was (old) Peak Road, but this road was narrow and was only used by "daredevils". 

After re-reading the Public Works Reports, I also think that full access was not possible before 1925. When I first posted the garage, I made a survey in the internet and found almost nothing except a first entry in the China Mail from 1 June 1927 [an advert for asbestos(!) roofs; a reference object was the garage]. But as I was quite convinced that the garage was older, I did not follow that. After your post I searched again and found an entry in the Hong Kong Heritage Project. The entry there reads:

Unfortunately, nothing further is available online. This indicates that the garage was built in 1924 earliest. I will update the construction date.
