Position of marker is approximate.

Philip Cracknell has found a mention in a wartime diary that places it opposite the Ritz in North Point, so it should be somewhere near here.

He also notes that during the Japanese invasion, "The hotel received several direct hits and was burnt down".

Thanks for adding the address.

The modern street numbering doesn't help with the location, as the Model Housing Estate is 740-802C King's Road, then across Mansion Street there is Mansion Building at 842-850 King's Road, so no sign of 804 or 810. King's Road must have been renumbered some time after WW2.

I think the marker is in the right general area though, based on the description that it was opposite the Ritz.

The former address of the Cathay Hotel was posted for reference. In the 1938 Street Index, 804-818 King's Road was on Q. B. I. L. No. 4. No mention of the hotel.

The marker for the hotel should be in the general area and looks good.

As I understand the Model Housing Estate was built on the site of a former quarry. This stretch of the south side of King's Road from Mansion Street to North Point Government Primary School (completed in 1954) only "took shape" in the 1950s.
