As I recall "Deodorant" was the not very respectful nickname of D.O.da Silva, but I'm afraid I cannot remember anything else about him. Perhaps a stock broker?

His full name was Daniel Oswald Oliver de Silva. Born on 18 April 1885 in Colombo, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and passed away in Hong Kong on 19 October 1968. Married Rosa Evelyn Griffin.

He was an insurance agent with Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada. The 1936-38 Jurors List records his name as Daniel Oswald Oliver da Silva.

(Between 1933 and 1935, a similar name, "Daniel Oscar da Silva" working at Sun Life appears in the Jurors List. Perhaps a transcription error of his middle name)

In May 1938, he renounced his surname and became known as Daniel Oswald Oliver Silver. 1939-41 Jurors List refers. Address given was 37 Hankow Road, 1st Floor, Kowloon.

Daniel O. O. Silver also had a residence at No. 7 House, Cheung Chau. See: https://gwulo.com/comment/77001. Between 1940 and 1941 he was elected President of the Cheung Chau Residents' Association. See China Mail 5 August 1941.

When Silver was known by his previous surname, he appeared in a photograph dressed up as a Scottish piper at a concert held on Cheung Chau. See Hong Kong Sunday Herald 1 September 1935.

Daniel O. O. Silver was not interned at Stanley Internment Camp. He appears out-of-camp in Harry Ching's wartime diary.
