Date closed / demolished

Seating capacity: 500

Address: Central Building, Chinese YMCA, 51 Bridges Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

The Chinese translation is 中華基督教青年會 大會堂, and for simplicity, it is named 大會堂 YMCA for this page.

The Central Building had its grand openig on October 10, 1918.  Available information shows that the theatre was operating commercially in 1926 hence this year is estimated to be the theatre's opening date.  After WWII, films were shown only privately at the hall and this may explain why the theatre is not well known.  In 1995, the Assembly Hall was converted to a shelter workshop for the mentally retarded, and this year is designated as the theatre's closing date.  The term demolished on this page refers to the theatre only, as the bulding remains in use today.
