Betty Readman was very dear to me. She was a close friend of my parents, Harold and Thelma Miller of 17 Peak Mansions, The Peak, HK. and treated me like an older sister from from when I was 8 until she died, when I was 16. She was the first person I had known well who had died and I was utterly broken hearted. Betty had a great sense of fun, she was very pretty and lively and much loved by her husband, children and friends. She provided me with all her unwanted bikinis and other lovely clothes as I grew older! We walked to her grave and I could barely stand from grief. RIP dear Betty, I will never forget you. Mary
My mother went to the same school as auntie Betty - French Convent in Causeway Bay ( now St. Paul’s Convent School) This was before the war.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember her maiden name was Bellamy. Her Chinese name might have been Yee Wah ( Eva in English) Leung , instead of Yeung? Probably from her first marriage to a Mr.Leung , a gentleman of means. Beside her daughter Mimi who was adopted into the Readman family, there was a son named Bobby who stayed with the father. He was my tutor for a bit. He attended her funeral at Happy Valley in the capacity only as a friend.
I remember auntie Betty and uncle Derek came to our flat during Christmas. Always looking forward to the presents they brought until they left for Australia.
She’ll always be missed.
