The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) is a Hong Kong sailing/rowing club that has three locations. Middle Island, Kellet Island and Shelter Cove. The club was orignially founded as the Hong Kong Corinthian Sailing Club in 1890, by sailing enthusiasts and Royal Navy sailors/veterans. It became RHKYC in 1893. The main club moved to Kellet Island in 1938 from North Point.
However, the Middle Island club has existed longer than the Kellet Island club. This is evident through a number of old club photos that seem to go back to the late 1800s. The flagpole that stands today is visible in these very early photos.
The Middle Island area had only a number of small moored boats and a local small clubhouse in the period, and only expanded post WW2 in the 1960s/70s. It now has recieved multiple renovations. It has a large hardstand, two slipways and a large clubhouse.
NOTE
- I will be adding more details to this AND old pictures exibhited at RHKYC Middle Island clubhouse (as I am a current memeber). This is only a preliminary intro.
