Espaced from Hong Kong in March 1943 via Macau with his family and other Norwegian families.
Johannessen played a central part in getting funds into Hong Kong by Macau during the occupation, with the assistance from the British Consul John Reeves.
He was awared with St. Olavs Medal in May 1948 for his efforts during the war.
