Just picked up a brief piece about an escape from HK in 1941 on BBC Radio 4.
Involved a Chinese admiral with one leg and British SOE forces! Unfortunately did not hear it all but it may be of interest to some Gwulo regulars.
The programme was Excess Baggage, BBC Radio 4, Saturday morning here (Ireland) at 10.30 and I expect that a Podcast will be avilable for download shortly, if not already, at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/podcasts/
Apparrently nearly 70 people escaped nto China just as the Japanese were taking the island over. Got away from Aberdeen.
Sorry for vagueness but was only half listening. Think I heard that a book is due out in new year about it.
Expect there were many escapes or attempted escapes from HK at this period but this one sounds interesting as the group was mixed involvng both Chinese and British defenders.
Hope it is of interest and expect that somebody will know about it already.

Thanks Moddsey. Understand from the bit I heard on BBC that there is a new book coming out based on the dairies of the SOE Major who organised the the escape and recounting the journey they made.
Will follow your link.
