I'm trying to locate a photo of Carnarvon Road from the 60s or 70s showing the Kingfisher Restaurant. My grandparents traveled to HK 8 times during those decades and raved about a restaurant on Carnarvon Rd in TST called the Kingfisher. When I moved to HK in 1990, I tried to locate it, but suspect it had closed years earlier. If anyone has any information, that would be great. I'd like to post something about this restaurant on my website, www.susanbkason.com
Re: Kingfisher Restaurant
Can't remember there being a Kingfisher.
BTW, what did the restaurant serve? Chinese? By any chance, would it have been the Kaiser Restaurant?

Wow! Thank you so much!! I had the wrong street all along! Would you mind, Vanessa, if I posted this on my blog? You wouldn't know when this matchbox was from or when the restaurant closed, would you? Thank you again so much!

of course you may use the image on your blog susan. my matchbox collecting 'career' spanned 1970-72 at its height so this box is probably from then, they added the prefix '3' to kowloon phone numbers about this time too. i wouldnt know when it closed though. humphrey's ave is very close to carnarvon rd so the location is not far off especially when you think about the odd non-gridlike shape that carnarvon has!
i also have a postcard of the august moon hotel which i can send if you like.
happy easter :)
Thank you so much!! I would
Thank you so much!! I would love a scan of the August Moon! My grandparents always said that the Kingfisher was on Carnarvon, so that's why I looked there. The last time they were in HK was '82, but they started going in '65, so maybe they remembered it from earlier in the trips. I suppose if they loved it so much and told me about it in 1990, it may have still be around in '82.
Thank you so much and have a lovely Easter!
Oh, I tried to click on the FB links you posted of Tkachenko's, but they didn't work for some reason.
