In 1947, George Truman and Clifford Evans piloting two Piper PA-12 Super Cruisers (popularly known as Cub planes) set off from Teterboro, New Jersey on a round-the-world flight. Truman and Evans flying NX3671M ("City of Angels" shown above) and NX2365M ("City of Washington") respectively, landed at Kai Tak on 29 September 1947. They departed for Shanghai on 5 October but due to strong headwinds enroute had to land at Amoy (Xiamen) before continuing on their journey. Further reading here . China Mail 1 and 6 October 1947 also refers.
