There were a number of beautifully built houses of Western architecture on the Kornhill, the one shown on this photo series has been in existence since 1902 or even earlier. Was this for the Taipans of the demolished Taikoo dockyard ?
Top left - the house overseeing construction of the Taikoo Dockyard (construction work from 1902 to 1907) and development of the Shaukeiwan Road
Lower left - 1964 aerial photo showing the location of this brick house, which has an unobstructed view of the entire dockyard
Top right - the brick house close-up photo taken in the 1920s,
nothing has changed in 20 years except the scrubs have grown up significantly
Middle-right - the House also provided a full view of the tramway when looking west to Quarry Bay area
Bottom right - there were a number of buildings developed on the hillside in 60s, and a few were close to the old quarry at the eastern part of Kornhill
Information and photos about the demolished buildings once on Kornhill most appreciated (Kornhill was flatten in 1985)
