Ex-Vice Chancellor of the former Hong Kong University, Mr D J Sloss, acted as Chief of the Internees' Mail Censorship Department during the occupation of Hong Kong. Here, Mr Sloss is seen on the balcony of the Colonial Secretary's Office after having given the first free press conference to Chinese and English newspaper correspondents immediately following the landing of British marines from the Task Force, which entered Vistoria Harbour on Thursday 30th August 1945. Mr Sloss and his colleagues hope to restart the University as soon as possible.
