Apothecary Shop, Shau Kei Wan

This very small shop intrigued me. It obviously sold medicine but it seemed to have a far smaller range of items on display than similar shops.

Hi there,

It is actually a Chinese medicine clinic for treating muscle/joints/bone related injuries.  A branch of Chinese Medicine.  The oinments and tonics are basically fo rexternal use only.  Usually they would be quite smelly.

Hi T

Thanks T.  I still have a small round tin of 1958 vintage Tiger Balm ointment in my 'museum'.  On my visits to HK between 2001 and 2007, I sometimes brought back new tins as small gifts for friends in the 367 Association.  I've never been sure whether it did any good or was it just a very good placebo?  Andrew
