A lonesome shophouse
Photo received from IDJ

Hi there,

I thought I have commented on this photo before, but I was unable to locate my previous note.  Anyway........

The Location of this one was on westbound Lockhart Road right at the junction of Flemming Road.  This was a noodle and congee restaurant that I frequented back in the mid to late 1970's.

From the photographer's point of view the left hand side of the shophouse was the site of the former Hennesy Road Wet Market.  It was a low rise building with a style very much like the small wet market atop the Canal in Canal Road.

Best Regards,

Hello there. I would like to know the source of this image? I'm doing a thesis on isolated shophouses and though this would make a perfect cover page for my project

The image was originally published in the Hong Kong Standard newspaper and reprinted on page 164 of a book titled Hong Kong Ways and Byways by Eric Cumine published in 1981 by Belongers Publications. No ISBN number. IDJ
