I've upgraded one of the components on the webserver (PHP, from version 5.4 to 5.6), for a small improvement in performance.
It shouldn't affect the site otherwise, but if you find anything isn't working please let me know.

I've just upgraded the viewer that we use to zoom in on photos. I've noticed three benefits:
1. Zoom in closer
The old version let us zoom in til the resolution of the image matches the resolution of your screen. The new version lets you zoom in further. Of course we're not really getting any more detail as that depends on the image file. But with a sharp photo I find it does help to be able to zoom in further, especially when looking at writing.
2. Bookmark and share your view
I've made another small change to keep you from seeing spam. The next time you post a comment, you'll see that your comment has been queued for the administrator (that's me!) to check it. Once I've approved a comment, any comments you leave in future will be shown straight away.
If I see the comment is spam I'll just delete it and ban the user, so you don't have to see it.

Since the upgrade, the link to a photo's gallery hasn't worked as well as it did before the upgrade.
eg if you look at today's photo, http://gwulo.com/atom/22678, after the upgrade the Gallery: link would take you to page: http://gwulo.com/taxonomy/term/806
Not a photo in sight!
So this afternoon's job has been to change it to point to the gallery page instead: http://gwulo.com/image?field_gallery_tid=806

Introduction
On some pages you'll see a new "Add a connection" block on the right of the screen. Initially it appears on each "Person" page.
It lets you define connections with other pages on the site. The first types of connections are to show the family relationships between two people, eg:

You've probably noticed that the spammers have been busy on Gwulo lately. I've just made a few changes that I hope will cut down the amount of spam you get to see. One side effect is that when you next post to the website, you may see a message:
Your new post is awaiting approval from the administrator. Once approved it will be published to the website.
I'll get an email alert and will publish the post as soon as possible. Once I've published, you shouldn't see the message on future posts.
If anything isn't working as expected, please let me know.
I've updated Places so that their dates of completion and demolition are automatically added in to the title. It works the same way it does on a Person page. eg see the "[1927- ]" automatically added to this Place's title: http://gwulo.com/peninsula-hotel

Whenever you're on a page where there is a text editor shown, eg if you're creating a new page or adding a comment, you'll see a new toolbar appears on the right edge of your browser. I've highlighted it in red:
