hook

I was running up Mount Davis Path the other morning and noticed a hook embedded into the slope on the left hand side. What was striking is that it is very similar to a hook they have in Gibraltar on the mountain which was apparently used to help military weaponary get up the steep slope during WW2.  Anyone have a history about the one here in HK?  Is it also from WW2?

Mount Davis Battery was completed in 1911. There is a photo in Ruins of War by Ko and Wordie showing the haulage of the 'big guns up the steep slope of Mount Davis at the turn of the last century. Information is also provided on the Battery. The hook may originate from this period.

Yes, I think they were used when hauling the guns up the hill, though as Moddsey notes that was probably nearer the start of the 20th century. There's a photo of the hook/loop, and more information about the area here.
