"YOUNG LADY'S DEATH

MISS M.M. XAVIER

We regret to record the death yesterday morning, after a few month's illness, of Miss Mercia Maria Xavier. She was the daughter of Mrs. M.P. Xavier, residing at 25, Mosque Junction.

The funeral took place in the afternoon at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Happy Valley, in the presence of many members of the Portuguese community, the Rev. Father Rossi conducting the service at the graveside. Chief mourners were the deceased's brother and sister, and her uncle, Mr. J.F. Souza, of Messrs. Shewan, Tomes and Company, many members of this firm's staff being among those present.

A large number of wreaths were sent by sympathisers."

MISS MERCIA MARIA XAVIER's FUNERAL

The death occurred early yesterday after an illness lasting a few months, of Miss Mercia Maria Xavier, daughter of Mrs. M.P. Xavier of No. 25, Mosque-junction.

In the afternoon the funeral took place at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Happy Valley, the service being conducted by the Rev. Fr. L. Rossi.

The chief mourners were the deceased's brother and sister, and her uncle, Mr. J.E. de Souza.

There was also present a large gathering of members of the staff of Shewan, Tomes & Co.

Many floral tributes were laid on the grave.
