Granville Road

[Update; now identified as Granville Road]

Hi,

Some help required in identifying this street.

The photo was taken in 1958 by my father. Judging by it's position in the rest of the series, it's probably TST or Jordan. (It comes between one of Mansion House & one of the Alhambra Theatre).

The street is too narrow to be a major thorough fare like Nathan Road, and too wide to be one of the side streets. If it wasn't for the car licence plates, I'd even doubt it was HK.

Thanks

It is a photo looking east down  Granville Road from the  Granville Road-Nathan road junction. Under the "photo supplies" sign on the left, there was the neon sign "雲裳舞院 cloud skirt dancing parlour" . According to 1950 香港年鑑, the address of the parlour was 1 Granville Road (1 加連威老道).

Of course that road is sloping downward.

Great, thanks for this.

Granville was my initial thought, but having stood at the top with the photo, it just didnt seem right. It's narrower today than in the photo, and it seemed to be longer in the photo.

I guess the end was detoured when they built the museums at the end, and the buildings encroached on the road (or just a case of perspective by the high buildings now).

Another perspective.
The Blue Peter Pub on the extremes left was a watering hole for servicemen. Many photos were taken of the Nathan/Granville Road junction.

This is definitely Granville Road looking from Nathan Rd., I recognize those signs of shops east of Carnarvon Road.
