Born Winnipeg 1909, raised Montreal. Bank Clerk in New York on 1930 Census. Must have joined British Army very shortly afterwards as newspaper clipping in link below suggests he had served for 13 years. Looks like a Scottish Regiment initially. Married Ursula Carroll in Surrey, England 1937. Daughter Bonita born HK 1941. Died of Acute Enteritis and Mobague (?). Described as Sgt. Intructor Army Education Corps working in Office of HK Chief Censor. (Parents were Russian born so he possibly had useful language skills?) Buried Sai Wan Cemetery. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=MA&GSpartial=1&GS…;

Thanks Nicola. I'd wondered how the family came to be in Hong Kong when the Canadian soldiers had arrived without families in late 1941. This clipping says he'd been in Hong Kong since 1935, which explains it.

Regards, David

I am researching for a new book about Canadian Jewish servicemen who were killed in uniform in the Second World War and would very much like information on Sgt Robert Macklin, and his widow and child, hoping to find them or their descendents for an interview. ebessner@gmail.com in Toronto, Canada. Many thanks.
