My walks all seem to be heading down memory lane at the moment. Today's took me past an old squatter area, and I saw a glass bottle sticking out of the earth. It had probably been thrown out some years before - not antique, but a few decades old.
In my early teens I spent a few days digging at a bottle dump not far from a friend's house. It was really the old town rubbish tip, but one that hadn't been used for over fifty years. So anything animal or vegetable in origin had long since turned into a rich dark compost, but the glass and ceramic rubbish was still as good as new. We dug up some lovely old glass bottles and ceramic jam jars.
I wonder if there's anything like this in Hong Kong? An old dumping area used in the nineteenth century, say?
