1930 Leighton (Hill) Road

As seen here, the road was previously known as Leighton Hill Road.

Perhaps from the 1930s based on the vehicles and bus that can be seen in the photo. A car is parked on the left whilst another car can be seen up the road in the distance. The long building on the left is between Canal Road East and Matheson Street. Craigengower Cricket Club is on the right. A view of these buildings can be seen here from 1941.

It is also an interesting photo as it shows the old route arrangement for trams entering Happy Valley. For this section of track, it looks like the tram is proceeding east on Leighton Hill Road after entering the road from Canal Road East. The tram would later go on to make a right turn onto Wong Nai Chung Road to the tram terminus at the racecourse. Cannot see clearly the destination of the tram. Corrections are welcome.
