The is indeed the HSBC Headquarters Building (2nd generation) [1886-1933], the photo was taken from Connaught Road. The tram has a canvas roof, this helps to find the date of the photo. David wrote that this type was introduced in 1913 and replaced in 1925. My proposal would be c.1920s
